Shannon Lake is a KGG favourite. It's one of those local Kelowna courses that quietly does everything well, an honest layout that can reward a good round or punish a bad drive depending on which side of your game shows up that day. After two seasons of recovery from drainage work, the course is in the best shape we've seen in years.

Located in West Kelowna just off Shannon Lake Road, this is a course that genuinely deserves more attention than it gets from out of town visitors. Locals know it well, and there's a reason it stays on our regular rotation.

The Course

Shannon Lake walks a nice line between challenging and approachable. The fairways are open enough that beginners can get around without losing a sleeve of balls, but the course will absolutely punish a wayward drive if you stray into the wrong spot. Position off the tee matters here, more than it does at some of the easier local options. That tension is part of what makes it fun to play. You can shoot a great score if your driver behaves, or you can find yourself scrambling all day if it doesn't.

The layout itself is one of the highlights. There's some genuinely good elevation change throughout the round, and the scenery shifts as you move through the property. It never feels repetitive. Some holes have you working through tree lined corridors, others open up with longer views, and the variety keeps the round engaging from start to finish.

You can shoot a great score or the course can punish you depending on where your drive goes. That tension is what makes Shannon Lake fun.

Conditions This Season

This is where the news gets really good. Shannon Lake is in the best shape we've seen in two years. The team did some significant drainage improvements through the 2024 and 2025 seasons, and the course has recovered beautifully. The fairways are healthy, the rough is consistent, and the work that went in is clearly paying off.

The greens are rolling true and are in great shape this season. Smooth, consistent speeds, and no surprises in the way the ball releases. For a local course, the green conditions genuinely impressed us this year.

Heads Up on Tee Boxes

Shannon Lake returfed several tee boxes at the start of the season, so you'll find some tees temporarily moved off their normal positions while the new turf establishes. Doesn't affect the playing experience but worth knowing if you've played the course before and notice the changes.

Practice Facilities

The practice setup is the one area where Shannon Lake is genuinely limited. There's a putting green and two hitting nets, and that's it. No driving range. If you want to warm up properly with a full bag before your round, you'll need to swing through Two Eagles or hit balls somewhere else first. The nets are fine for getting loose, but they're a warmup tool, not a practice facility.

It's the one practical tradeoff with playing here. Plan your day accordingly and it's not a dealbreaker, just something to know going in.

The Restaurant

The on site restaurant is a genuinely nice spot to settle in after the round. The food is solid, exactly what you want post round, and the patio is the highlight. It overlooks the 9th hole, so you get a view of golf in progress and a clear look out over Shannon Lake itself. Few local courses can offer a patio view like that, and it elevates the whole post round experience from "decent place to grab a drink" to somewhere you'll actually want to linger.

The patio overlooks the 9th green and Shannon Lake itself. One of the best post round views in West Kelowna.

Pricing & Value

The green fee is in line with what you'd expect to pay in the Kelowna area for a full length course that isn't an executive layout. You're getting a proper round on a well maintained course in a great setting, and the pricing reflects that fairly. It's not the cheapest round in town, and it's not trying to be. It's a fair price for what's on offer.
